Did you know that there is actually an organization that supports and promotes ergonomics as a world-wide profession?
The Mission Statement of the Foundation for Professional Ergonomics (FPE) says:
“The mission of FPE is to provide leadership in evolving and growing the ergonomics profession; bridge gaps between research, education and practice; and promote professionalism in ergonomics practice; all for the benefit of the public.
To further that end, the FPE has created the Dieter W. Jahns Student Practitioner Award.
The award, named in memory of Dieter W. Jahns, a life-long advocate of the practice of ergonomics and a leader in Ergonomics Certification, is no annual award given to the student for an ergonomics project that demonstrates the major practice areas of Ergonomics: Analysis, Design, and Evaluation.
The purpose of the awards is to advance professionalism in ergonomics by recognizing educational activities that demonstrate how professional ergonomists serve to make our lives at work and at home healthier, safer, more productive, and more satisfying.
A second way that the FPE is promoting its mission is the establishment of the Ergonomics Without Borders (EWB) project. The EWB is working toward a world in which ergonomics knowledge and resources are accessible for all developing populations to live and work safely, efficiently and sustainably.
The EWB collaborates with national and international organizations through mutual support agreements to accomplish its vision and mission, which are:
Vision: A world in which ergonomics knowledge and resources are accessible for all developing populations to live and work safely, efficiently and sustainably.
Mission: To improve quality of life by providing ergonomics expertise and resources to agriculturally and industrially developing communities, globally.
EWB is certainly making its mark globally. By its 3rd year, 2012, it had 95 volunteers from 20 countries on 5 continents.
The UGLee Pen fits right in with a world that the FPE envisions. This ergonomic pen is a simple yet powerful example of how ergonomics can change the lives of people of all ages, cultures, and stages of health. A true comfort pen, it is the best pen to demonstrate how using ergonomics can easily be part of people’s daily lives anywhere in the world.
